COLOR, CULTURE, COMPLEXITY
Researching contemporary Indian artists, I noticed their lack of representation in an international context. To explore this further, I chose four artists who have worldwide recognition and investigated several pieces from each artist, to find common threads that linked their works to their global respect. In the four artists that I examined, the shared characteristic was their use of a medium that is both infused with Indian culture and history, and yet contemporary enough to appeal to today's univeral audiences. Art that transcends geographic borders can bridge and spread different cultures worldwide by providing a forum for expression and critique.
