Visual Studies
The Visual Studies Program suffered a great loss when Matt Freedman succumbed to his long battle with cancer on October 24, 2020. He was active at Penn in both the School of Design and the Visual Studies program. In the past decade, he was teacher, critic, mentor, advisor, and friend to scores and scores of students in the senior project course (VLST 395) and in VLST 103. He helped students mount their senior exhibition, responded to their ideas, and encouraged them to take chances. His presence was a gift to the students. He will be deeply missed by students and colleagues in VLST as well as the School of Design, and by the larger world.
